Genetic risk factors for CVD
Atherosclerosis and venous thrombosis are two major manifestations of CVD. Both can be caused by complex interactions of environmental and genetic factors. An unhealthy lifestyle in combination with genetic risk factors can contribute to the occurrence of CVD. Similarly, a combination of adverse influences (female hormone intake, immobilization, surgery or cancer) and variations in genes responsible for the coagulation system can contribute to CVD.
